about

WASTELANDS is an initiative by Melbourne-based artist Harry Tinney formed in response to a sense of cultural and spiritual apathy. Each song form is a distillation of his lived experience, drawing on aspects of time spent in Naarm/Melbourne during the 2020 and 2021 COVID lockdowns. The record draws on themes of isolation, loss, and uncertainty, but with an eye to the future and an acceptance of change – as uncomfortable as it can be.

Harry would like to thank Angus and Felix for their friendship, conviction, and enthusiasm in helping bring this project to fruition. Rohan - for his care and consideration throughout the production process. Family - Linda and Graeme, Ella, Sid and Grace for their support, wisdom, and willingness to listen.

This project was recorded on the stolen land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. I pay my respects to their elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded and this always was and always will be Aboriginal land. It is an honour and a privilege to create on this land that has been a space for introspection, contemplation and provocation for thousands of years.
